Message from the Principal
Dear students, families, and community,
I am excited to write this letter of introduction to you as the new Principal of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Academy. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such amazing students, dedicated staff, and supportive school community. Rest assured, we are working hard during this time of transition, and we thank you in advance for your continued support and patience.
The 2026-2027 school year will mark my 15th year working in the Alisal Union School District. Some of you may know that I most recently worked as an Assistant Principal at Virginia Rocca Barton School in our district. In addition, I have also previously supported the district as an Educational Technology TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) and classroom teacher across multiple grade levels and programs. I look forward to working with all of you now in my current position as Principal to ensure our students’ success.
On a personal note, I was born and raised here in Salinas. My family is from Mexico and immigrated to the United States before eventually arriving in Salinas to work as part of the agricultural work force. Although I carry both my mother and father’s memory in my full name, you’ll hear me being addressed as Ms. Salinas, which I’ve chosen to use in honor of my mother. I am grateful to be a part of this community and look forward to strengthening it together.
Please know that my door is always open. I believe relationships are key to every success in school and welcome you to connect with me whenever possible. Together, we can strengthen the support systems for our students. I look forward to meeting you all soon.
With gratitude,
Celia Salinas Garcia
